Box Group founder David Tisch stated on the 20VC podcast that concentrated seed funds misrepresent their success rates when competing for startup deals, BigGo Finance reported. Tisch said that while managers claim to win 90 percent of the deals they pursue, the real figure is closer to 20 percent. [1]
According to BigGo Finance, Tisch argued that the ownership-obsessed seed fund model is structurally broken. He said arithmetic refutes the idea that managers targeting 10 percent ownership stakes across small portfolios of 30 companies are winning most of their target deals. [1]
Tisch is an American businessman and angel investor based in New York City. He serves as managing partner of the seed-stage firm Box Group and co-founded TechStars New York City. [4]
Venture capital firms provide financing to early-stage startups with high growth potential in exchange for equity stakes. Because early-stage companies face high uncertainty, these investments carry high failure rates for fund managers. [5]
