Trump Names Jay Clayton to Lead New Federal AI Task Force

President Donald Trump has announced the creation of a new federal artificial intelligence task force led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, according to reports from TechCrunch AI and CNBC. The Information and The Guardian both reported that Clayton will serve as the White House artificial intelligence czar. The task force plans to deliver a report on the risks and opportunities of artificial intelligence within 120 days, The Information reported, citing an interview with Clayton in the Wall Street Journal. The team, which TechCrunch AI noted is also referred to as the Super Intelligence Force, will include Clayton and other administration officials to oversee federal policy. [1][2]

Clayton has served as the ninth director of national intelligence since 2026. He previously served as the United States attorney for the Southern District of New York from 2025 to 2026, and as chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission from 2017 to 2020. [7]
