SpaceX is in talks with discount wireless carrier Boost Mobile to expand its service beyond satellite coverage, according to The Information, TechCrunch, Data Center Dynamics, Firstpost, and Drive Tesla Canada. The discussions could lead to SpaceX purchasing Boost Mobile from its parent company EchoStar or securing access to its network. TechCrunch and The Information noted that the original report on the potential deal came from The Washington Post. [1][3][4][6][7]

MarketWatch, TechCrunch, Yahoo Finance, and Firstpost reported that the effort is part of a broader push by SpaceX to expand its Starlink network into mobile phone services. TechCrunch added that buying the mobile operator would provide SpaceX with terrestrial access to build a hybrid cellular-satellite network. If completed, the acquisition could place SpaceX fourth among the top wireless providers in the United States. [2][3][5][6]

Boost Mobile is a mobile virtual network operator and a wholly owned subsidiary of EchoStar Corporation. Together with its sister brand Gen Mobile, Boost Mobile served 7.51 million subscribers as of December 31, 2025. [3][8]

As FTMQ Startups reported earlier, SpaceX previously agreed to acquire an 800 MHz spectrum portfolio of up to 14 megahertz from Grain Management to expand its Starlink mobile service. On X at the time of the spectrum acquisition, Elon Musk stated that the deal represented the last critical piece of the spectrum puzzle needed for SpaceX to provide complete phone coverage in America.
