Apple announced refreshed models of the iMac and entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro, both powered by the company's new M6 chip, Ars Technica and TechCrunch reported. Ars Technica noted that the M6 processor was initially introduced in the Mac mini several weeks ago. TechCrunch reported that the updated devices were revealed one day before Apple's scheduled Pro and Tell event. [1][2]
The new 14-inch MacBook Pro starts at $1,999 and is offered in silver and space black, according to TechCrunch. TechCrunch and PCMag UK both report that the starting price is around $1,999 to $2,000. Ars Technica and TechCrunch confirmed that the laptop features support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 connectivity. TechCrunch also reported that the laptop delivers 24 hours of battery life. [1][2][6]
For the iMac, Apple offers two distinct M6 processor variants, Ars Technica reported. The option featuring two Thunderbolt ports includes a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU, maxing out at 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Ars Technica added that the four-port iMac variant features a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU, supporting up to 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage. The 14-inch MacBook Pro uses the 12-core CPU and GPU configuration, maxing out at 32GB of RAM and 4TB of storage. [1]
The hardware updates arrive alongside broader updates across Apple's product lineup. Pulse 2.0 reported that Apple also introduced a redesigned iPad mini featuring an A20 Pro chip and OLED display, as well as AI-focused updates for Apple Creator Studio. TechCrunch and Pulse 2.0 both noted that Apple announced its new iPad mini earlier in the week. [2][3]
The MacBook Pro is Apple's high-end laptop line, originally introduced in 2006 to replace the PowerBook family for professional users. The all-in-one iMac line first transitioned to custom Apple silicon processors in 2021 with the introduction of the M1 chip. [9][10]
