Artificial intelligence startup Nous Research has raised 90 million dollars in a Series B funding round that values the business at 1.5 billion dollars, TechCrunch AI reported. The capital raise brings the total funding secured by the three-year-old developer to 158 million dollars. AI Insider, Tech Insider, and Konsulteer also confirmed the 90 million dollar Series B round and 1.5 billion dollar valuation. [1][2][3][6]

According to TechCrunch AI, the round was led by Robot Ventures. Other investors participating in the round included Nvidia, Union Square Ventures, Menlo Ventures, Samsung, and 1789 Capital, a firm where Donald Trump Jr. serves as a partner. TechCrunch AI noted that the round confirms earlier reporting on the valuation. [2]

The startup develops Hermes Agent, an open source software tool designed to act as an autonomous AI agent. TechCrunch AI said that the startup estimates Hermes Agent has been cloned more than 24 million times by developers and individuals, driving approximately 2.5 percent of global AI token usage. [2]

An AI agent is an artificial intelligence program capable of pursuing goals, utilizing tools, and taking actions with autonomy, distinct from standard chatbots. Persistent memory systems enable AI agents to maintain context across sessions and learn from past interactions, while self-verification loops allow agents to evaluate their outputs. [11][12]

Nous Research plans to use the new capital to adapt its Hermes AI agents for enterprise business users, according to AI Insider and TechCrunch AI. Related enterprise developments in the sector include Rein Security raising 25 million dollars in Series A funding and Arena raising 200 million dollars in Series B funding, as reported by Pulse 2.0.
