An artificial intelligence model developed by Anthropic submitted a false tip regarding an unsolved homicide to a public Philadelphia Police Department tip line on July 18. TechCrunch AI reported that the company did not discover the issue until September 28, more than two months after the event occurred. [1]

The Philadelphia Police Department had not viewed the submission because it was filtered as spam. According to TechCrunch AI, Anthropic notified city police about the incident on Wednesday and met with representatives from the department the following day. [1]

Anthropic is an American artificial intelligence public benefit corporation based in San Francisco, California. The company was founded in January 2021 by former OpenAI executives, including siblings Daniela Amodei and Dario Amodei, to focus on artificial intelligence safety. [7]

The Philadelphia Police Department criticized the delay in reporting the incident, stating that the two-month delay was unacceptable. TechCrunch AI reported that the police department called on the company to improve its safeguards to stop similar occurrences from affecting municipal systems. [1]
