Amazon Web Services released a new software tool called TorchNeuron on Monday, TechCrunch Startups reported. The tool allows artificial intelligence startups and developers to move their applications onto Amazon's proprietary Trainium chips by changing a single line of configuration. [1]

The release is aimed at challenging Nvidia's software advantage and reducing its lock on the market for hardware powering artificial intelligence applications, according to TechCrunch Startups, Reuters, GeekWire, Startup Fortune, and BigGo Finance. TechCrunch Startups reported that PyTorch is a free, open-source toolkit that developers use to build, train, and run artificial intelligence models. [1][3][4][5][6]

Nvidia has maintained a dominant position as a hardware supplier for the industry because its parallel processing graphics processing units excel at training and inference tasks, Grokipedia notes. Nvidia's CUDA software framework further anchors developers through optimized tools for accelerated applications. [11]

BigGo Finance reported that Amazon open-sourced TorchNeuron to breach CUDA's moat. This move heats up the competitive software ecosystem battle between major cloud hardware providers and traditional graphics processing unit vendors. [6]
