Replit ends Anthropic partnership over costs and model performance

Artificial intelligence coding platform Replit has stopped working with Anthropic, Chief Executive Amjad Masad said on Thursday at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference in San Francisco. TechCrunch and Pluang both reported that Masad attributed the decision to multiple reasons, including costs and model performance. Masad stated that he believes ChatGPT is now superior. [1][2][6]

Replit announced a partnership with OpenAI in August 2026. TechCrunch reported that there had been no previous public indication that Replit was ending its relationship with Anthropic. Pluang reported that Replit has shifted its primary focus to OpenAI following the split. [1][6]

At the same event, Masad discussed his vision for the future of work, which he called the self driving company. TechCrunch AI reported that Masad foresees AI agents managing day to day operations while human workers focus on higher level decisions. [2]
