Non-profit certificate authority Let's Encrypt will shorten the maximum validity period of its free SSL and TLS certificates from 90 days to 64 days beginning on February 10, 2027, Ars Technica, UA.NEWS, and news.lavx.hu reported. [1][2][3]

The change aims to advance web security standards. Ars Technica reported that Let's Encrypt will begin testing the shorter 64-day duration on October 14, allowing website operators to opt in and test their infrastructure before the production rollout. [1]

Systems using modern Automated Certificate Management Environment clients that support ACME Renewal Information will experience a smooth transition, according to Ars Technica. System administrators relying on fixed renewal schedules or manual updates must adjust their configurations before the February 2027 deadline to avoid unexpected certificate expirations. [1]

Let's Encrypt is operated by the Internet Security Research Group and provides X.509 certificates for Transport Layer Security encryption at no cost. Launched in late 2015, the service aims to expand HTTPS adoption and currently secures hundreds of millions of websites worldwide. [4][6]
