Political groups focused on artificial intelligence regulation spent millions of dollars attempting to influence the 2026 midterm elections, TechCrunch reported. The political action committees recorded mixed results across the country, with several heavily funded candidates losing their election contests. [1]
Two industry political action committees, American Mission and Building the Future, spent a combined $4.8 million supporting South Carolina Senate candidate Darline Graham, according to TechCrunch. Graham lost her race despite the financial backing. Political groups on both sides of artificial intelligence regulation are already turning their attention to future election cycles. [1]
The network behind these groups includes Leading the Future, a super PAC network launched in 2025 to lobby for pro-industry policies. Leading the Future raised over $140 million from tech investors and executives, including Andreessen Horowitz, OpenAI President Greg Brockman, and Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale. The organization operates American Mission PAC for Republican primaries, Think Big PAC for Democratic primaries, and the Build American AI offshoot. [3]
